PSA.. #11:  It’s not your house.

If your name isn’t on the deed… it’s not your house. I repeat... if it’s not on the house, it’s not your house.

Punto y Aparte, son.

“Ohhh yuri, how do you know that?”

Funny story, I live in Arizona.. I didn’t know this, but when we were engaged, we bought a home and I asked to be put on house, but since we were going to be married eventually, I was reassured that it was not necessary . I was told by my husband whom I trusted: “no need to because when we’re married, it’s 50/50.”

Why would I question this?

Fast forward to a vasectomy and a divorce… in the state of AZ, if it was purchased prior to marriage it’s not yours if your name isn’t on it. It’s not even your’s after you get married. It’s not automatically community property, you have to be added onto it.

My loving advice friends, put your name on the house, and if the other person doesn’t want to until after they get a vasectomy (or something else) .… well there are bigger issues there. But know your marriage state laws I guess? That doesn’t sound romantic.  You should fully trust and love people, but it’s always good to know your shit. And if you don’t, you live and you learn.

Am I the only one that didn’t know this??
